The Big House (1930)
The Big House one of the first and the best of the prison movies of the 30's and a knock out at the 1930 box office. Chester Morris tough forceful performance was matched by Wallace Beery's as a condemned convict and Robert Montgomery was great as the cowardly informer. MGM were not known for their tough gritty films as Warner Bro's were, so it's great that this film ever got made at all. But at time of the films release their was big talk as to how they would tackle crime in the USA.
